INPUT 2008 - Johannesburg, South Africa

"Africa my beginning Africa my end…" - Ingoapele Madingoane

Going to Africa is a beginning and an ending. Going to INPUT 2008 will be the start of a new era in public broadcasting on the African continent and the end of isolation for television storytellers in Africa.

“From the margins to the centre,” says INPUT 2008 Shopsteward, Kethiwe Ngcobo.

INPUT celebrates three decades of being at the cutting edge of innovation in Africa. From May 4th to 10th 2008 the largest broadcaster in Africa, the South African Broadcasting Corporation - SABC, will host about 1,500 delegates – the crème de la crème of public television from around the world – at the state of the art Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

The theme for INPUT 2008: Back to the Beginning

It is an invitation for the INPUT family to return to Africa, the cradle of humankind. It is also a call to return to the power of simple, well told stories.

This pan African extravaganza hosted by the SABC is guaranteed to create value for broadcasters and filmmakers globally. The best public interest programmes from around the world will be screened and discussed. INPUT ensures that all the filmmakers are present to engage with the audience. The Shopstewards, leading international professionals who serve on the selection panel, moderate discussions. INPUT is the only professional event that deals exclusively with the content and direction of public interest television.

INPUT 2008 will be held exactly ten years since the first ever mini-INPUT held in South Africa, at Sithengi in 1998.

Thirty years since the first INPUT was held in Bellagio, Italy.

So far the SABC’s International networking has brought valuable partners to the table: the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), the African Broadcast Media Partnership (ABMP), the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA), the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB), the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Goethe Institute. A partnership that is guaranteed to ensure a professional opportunity that is unsurpassed.
