INPUT 1987 - Granada, Spain
"For sheer drama, nothing in INPUT's first 10 years can match the events attending INPUT 1987 in Granada, ancient capital city of the Moors and home of te Alhambra. In the circumstance, it was remarkable the conference happened at all. That it did was due in large measure to Enrique Nicanor who led the team that planned and organized it on behalf of the host organization, RTVE, Spain's public system.
The problems began just a few short weeks before several hundred delegates were to descend upon Granada. The planned site of the INPUT Conference, a meeting centre close by the Alhambra was destroyed by fire, set by a disgruntled janitor who had been sacked and found his own way to retaliate. A search for a suitable alternative yielded nothing. In desperation, Enrique sought the help of the Mayor of Granada, strongly hinting that he was eyeing the rival city of Seville as an alternate venue if Granada could not find a suitable site.
The mayor found one: Granada's Hospital Real, a magnificent Renaissance structure."
